This weekend, the 11-and-under HUB 44 Riptides, which include many players from East Hampton Little League, won the Brookhaven Town Elite Invitational Tournament. It’s the second straight tournament championship for this team and has qualified for the Tournament of Champions. The 11U Riptides dominated competition by defeating the Eastern A’s, 12-2, in their first game, defeated Three Village, 13-0, in their second game, defeated East End, 9-1, in the third game, and then, in their fourth and final game, defeated Middle Country, 14-1. Colin Grisch pitched 10 innings throughout the tournament and allowed no runs and just two hits while striking out 16 batters. In the final game, both Grisch and Ryan Balnis each drove in five runs. Additionally, HUB 44’s JV team won its Tournament of Champions and its 9U team won its Elite Invitational Tournament.

Back in Win Column East Hampton (4-3 in League V) defeated visiting Harborfields, 9-4, on Monday to bring a quick halt to a three-game losing streak after getting swept by Eastport-South Manor two weeks ago. Despite being outhit by the Tornadoes, 9-5, the Bonackers made the hits count when needed, putting up five runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead, then scoring four runs in the fifth to extend that lead even further. For Bonac Softball The East Hampton softball team (1-5 overall) won its first game of the season in dramatic fashion on Friday at home. After Lydia Rowan’s triple in the bottom of the seventh scored the tying run, Alexa Schaffer won it with a three-run home run that capped the 13-10 come-from-behind victory for the Bonackers.
