Raffet A. Azzouz, 42, of Manhattan was arrested on misdemeanor DWI charges by Sag Harbor Village Police a little after midnight on Saturday. Police said Azzouz was driving a 2011 Aston Martin eastbound on Bay Street in the westbound lane, nearly colliding with an oncoming patrol car. The officer did a U-turn and pulled Azzouz over. The officer reported that Azzouz appeared intoxicated and failed roadside sobriety tests. At headquarters, after the arrest, Azzouz consented to a breath test, which, according to police, produced a reading slightly over the .08 mark that defines intoxication in the State of New York. by Staff Writer

The Deepfake Future

The idea for the event began “percolating,” said Professor Andrea Gabor, who has a home on Shelter Island, while she and panelist Don Waisanen were co-teaching an honors class last semester at Baruch College/CUNY titled “The News Media, Toxic Sludge and the Future of Democracy.” A press release announcing the forum, which was held last week at LTV Studios in Wainscott, quoted Gabor as saying: “In the last 20 years, the U.S. has lost close to 3,000 local newspapers, or about one-third of all independent news outlets. We Are Dinosaurs

Some years ago, at an old farmer’s funeral, his son, eulogizing, looked out and upon the congregation. His eyes fell on all those familiars as if we were strangers or suspects. He looked high into the balcony and repeated what he’d just said. “Some of you, here today don’t know it, but you are dinosaurs … dinosaurs.” He continued, giving fantastic details of his father’s humble and yet adventurous life. The dinosaurs in the room could perhaps begin to identify themselves. He was talking about the lumbering, tinkering, committed types working wholesale vegetable farms with their family in tow. The Bronx to Bat Masterson

So I tell readers I’m from the West Bronx, and even that isn’t quite true. I can’t tell them I was born west of the Missouri River, or even the mighty Mississippi. Heck, I wasn’t even born west of the Hudson River. Let me backtrack: In preparation for the publication of “Bandit Heaven” later this month, advertisements are being prepared for the print media, and some have already been posted on social media. St. Martin’s Press also has distributed several hundred ARCs, or advance review copies, to booksellers and reviewers. I (almost) blush as I report that this material includes ... by Tom Clavin
