Longtime Montauk resident John Alvin McDonald died on August 30 at the Westhampton Care Center, just one month shy of his 100th birthday.
Born September 24, 1909, to John and Mary (née Porrier) McDonald in D’Escousse, Canada, he worked as a commercial fish processor for Perry Duryea. He was an active member of the St. Therese Church in Montauk and the Montauk Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Edith McDonald; two sons, John McDonald of Montauk and Joe McDonald of East Hampton; two daughters, Elaine Liebowitz of Arizona and Janet Prado of Massachusetts; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors on September 2 at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral mass was held September 3 at St. Therese Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montauk Fire and Ambulance Department, 12 Flamingo Avenue, Montauk, NY 11954 would be appreciated by the family.
