Lower Scores

Education is at the forefront of many conversations lately. Vivek Ramaswamy floated the idea of merit-based teaching — in essence, teachers get paid for producing students with high-achieving grades.

In New York State, we are estimated to spend $89.9 billion on education for 2024-25. We spend the most in the nation and are producing low test scores. Our spending in two years’ time would be enough to reach the alleged $175 billion estimate to rid the United States of homelessness. I digress.

In Amagansett, Superintendent Michael Rodgers’s name came up continuously, whether it was during, throughout or in the decision of the Principal Maria Dorr 3020A hearing. Even Rodgers finding individuals to testify during days of hearings. So much for that alleged individual independent investigation by Richard Loeschner.

The state scores have been released, and Amagansett’s scores aren’t what they once were, in my opinion. An emphasis is on recreation and extracurricular activities, while academics now seem to be on a second tier or further back burner for the once Blue Ribbon School.

I wish the picture printed this past week was full. The book “Liars Society” above Michael Rodgers’s head seems to have been well-placed.

Still here.
