Oceanfront Homeowners Balked at Agreement That Would Have Extended Montauk Beach

After extensive lobbying, East Hampton Town had convinced the Army Corps of Engineers to extend the planned beach nourishment in Montauk another quarter mile east, to the end of Surfside Avenue, adding new beach in front of 16 additional private homes. But some of the homeowners wouldn't sign required easements allowing the sand placement so the ACOE cancelled the entire extension.
