Robert Mero
Robert Mero of Springs died at the Westhampton Care Center on Monday, September 5. He was 91.
Born March 30, 1920, in Woodbridge, Connecticut, to Hannibal Mero and Netti Sills Mero, he graduated from Hampton University in Virginia with a degree in ornamental horticulture. He taught there for a number of years before moving to New York to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and supervised landscape installations around the country, as well as managing property owned by Met Life. At the time of his retirement, he was manager and superintendent of Peter Cooper/ Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan. When he retired in 1983, he moved to East Hampton.
Mr. Mero was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. In his later years, he enjoyed driving around looking for local game—turkey and deer—in the woods.
Mr. Mero is survived by his wife, Letitia Mero; daughters, Martha Cooper of Georgia, Camellia Mero of Manhattan, Carolia Malone of Georgia, Nancy Baker of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Winnifred Schroder.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
