The East Hampton girls swim team honored its six graduating seniors against tough competition in its final home meet of the regular season on October 12.
Before the start of the meet, seniors Izzy Caplin, Cloe Ceva, Dakota Quackenbush, Kate McMillan, Sidney Rawson, and Ruby Tyrrell were given special recognition, taking part in the Bonac swim team’s annual “senior swim” ceremony.
After that, it was time to pull the goggles down and get down to business in the pool against a tough Sayville team, the defending League III champion and fourth-place team finisher at last year’s Suffolk County Championships. As expected, the Golden Flashes were tough to beat in the pool, and they came away with a 93-77 win.
It was the first loss of the season for East Hampton, which moved to 2-1 in League III, 4-1 overall. Sayville remained unbeaten in the league at 3-0, and moved to 5-1 overall.
Freshman Lily Early was chosen by the Bonac team captains as “Swimmer of the Meet.” Early, who is in her first season on the varsity squad, competed in the 200-yard freestyle, the 500 freestyle, and also swam a leg in the 4x100-meter relay. She was third in both the 200 and 500, and helped her teammates to a second-place finish in the relay, with a season’s best-time in her leg of that race.
Early’s time in her portion of the relay was one of several season’s-best times posted by Bonac swimmers in the meet.
Lucy Knight, Lizzy Daniels, Ginger Griffin, Izzy Caplin, Ruby Tyrell, Ani Bedini, Iris Calle, Ali Pacheco, Vira Palamarchuk, Alison Cardozo, Lily Caplin, Fiona Stisi, Lily Corcoran, and Dakota Quackenbush all had season’s best times in individual events, while both the A and B teams of the 200 medley relay, the B and C teams of the 200 free relay, and the B and C teams of the 400 free relay had their best collective times of the season as well.
The Bonackers were scheduled to close out the League III season at Lindenhurst on October 18 at 5 p.m. and will begin the postseason on October 27 at West Islip High School for the League III Championships at 4:30 p.m.
The Section XI (Suffolk County) Championships are set for November 4 at Stony Brook University at 9:30 a.m.
