Stephen Fitzgerald of East Hampton died on April 11, surrounded by loved ones. He was 63.
His quiet strength, kindness and subtle sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew him, his family said.
Born on July 3, 1961, to Joseph and Mary Fitzgerald, he grew up in Springs and attended Springs School. He was a proud graduate of East Hampton High School and later attended the Academy of Aeronautics at LaGuardia. He dedicated most of his career to East Way Aircraft Services, where he was respected for his knowledge, work ethic, and dedication.
He found joy in the outdoors — he was especially passionate about surfcasting along the coast and freshwater fishing. His family will hold close many memories of early mornings crabbing on Georgica pond, summer days on Lake Champlain and many weekends spent by the beach.
He will be remembered for his deep love of family, gentle spirit, and the peace he found by the water.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Baldwin Fitzgerald; two daughters, Kailey Gingras and husband Adam of North Easton, Massachusetts, and Lauren Fitzgerald of Boston, Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Tessa Gingras and Austin Gingras; his siblings and their spouses, Michael Fitzgerald (Carolyn) of East Hampton, Brian Fitzgerald of Canandaigua, New York, and Diane Fitzgerald Leroy (Russell) of Harvard, Massachusetts; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Memorial donations have been suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org).
