East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue had one of its best turnouts ever for its annual Red Devil Swim at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett on Saturday, September 3.

Well over 100 swimmers, 142 to be exact, competed in the three different options that were offered — full mile, half-mile or quarter-mile — in open waters along Atlantic Avenue Beach. Sixty two swimmers competed in the full mile, 30 competed in the half mile and 50 competed in the quarter mile.

The event continued as the main fundraiser for the East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue, a group of dedicated lifeguards and ocean rescue swimmers who train year-round and provide a quick response to water emergencies. They also provide water protection for numerous triathlons and open-water swims and paddle events throughout the year.

“The Red Devil Swim is our annual ocean swim benefit, with proceeds helping to support us in our mission of protecting the people of East Hampton in the water,” Chief Barnaby Friedman said. “This was our best year yet, with good conditions and more swimmers participating than ever before. We love this benefit because it really feels like a community event, and fits in perfectly with our mission of teaching swimmer safety.”
