Afternoon tea became a custom in England after the Seventh Duchess of Bedford (1783-1857) complained of “a sinking feeling” between lunch and dinner. Let’s raise a cuppa to her as we enjoy a delicious high tea in the glorious great room of the Carl Fisher House, featuring homemade scones, finger sandwiches, cakes, and proper British tea. What better way to welcome the first day of summer? Hats and fascinators are optional, but a prize will be awarded for the most memorable headwear.
