About On The Road and At Home with The Rolling Stones
Author and Rolling Stones insider Bill German will discuss his ups and downs with “the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world.” His presentation will include film, slide show, and audience Q&A. He will also be signing books. His book, Under Their Thumb, chronicles his unlikely friendship with the Stones (forged when he was just a teenager in Brooklyn) and reveals how he became the band’s official historian for two decades. He traveled the world with them, stayed at their homes, and witnessed their private jam sessions, decadent parties, and vicious feuds. He’ll share his humorous and behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
About Under Their Thumb: In 1978, at age sixteen, Bill German began publishing a Rolling Stones fanzine from his bedroom in Brooklyn. When he presented it to the band on a Manhattan street (a moment captured on the book's front cover), he apparently made an impression: Before he knew it, the Stones welcomed him into their orbit and hired him to officially document their career. Under Their Thumb is a fish-out-of-water tale about a fan who wanted to know everything about his favorite rock group, and suddenly learned too much.
About the Author: Bill German majored in journalism at New York University until he dropped out to tour with the Stones. In addition to Under Their Thumb, he co-authored The Works with Stones guitarist Ron Wood and has written for Rolling Stone and Spin. He lives in New York City.
