Hallockville Museum Farm will present a hands-on penny rug-making workshop on Saturday, May 3 from 1 – 3 p.m. Instructor Diane Schwindt, a domestic skills historian and educator, will explain the history of penny rugs and guide participants in making their own creations. Penny rugs, a craft that dates back to the 1700s, are created from felted wool circles sewn in layers to create decorative mats which are then used as table coverings. The registration fee is $35 for Hallockville members and $40 for nonmembers. An additional $10 fee for supplies will be collected at the class by the instructor.
