Join us for a panel discussion on ReThinkNYC's proposal to convert commuter rail at the Penn Station. Now used by its main tenants as a terminal facility, to a state-of-the-art operating model for commuter railroading with through-running. A panel of experts who support ReThinkNYC’s proposals will join Sam Turvey and Peg Breen in this discussion.
Through-running, a concept embraced by a host of major world capitals like Chicago, Philadelphia, London, and Paris, offers a seamless transit solution for Greater New York, connecting New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester through Penn Station while utilizing rail hubs on both sides of the Hudson and East Rivers. This model contrasts with proposed solutions involving additional terminal tracks beneath 31st Street, which halt trains, as opposed to through-running, which allows trains to continue to other destinations. Besides enhancing economic growth and equity through improved connectivity, through-running is projected to cost less and eliminates the need for demolishing buildings near Penn Station. Mr. Turvey will present these arguments, supported by a panel of experts, advocating for ReThinkNYC's proposals.
