As we are so well aware, life as we know it on the East End is upended at the moment. Among the activities on hold are visits to vineyards where, right about now, we would be sitting amongst the spring vines sipping the latest vintage and listening to our favorite winemakers share secrets of growing methods and vintner philosophy.
Well, here’s a bit of good news.
For those missing the local Vitis vinifera scene, Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack has you covered, virtually speaking, and is now offering two wine tasting packages that you can enjoy from the safety and comfort of your own home. And this tasting comes complete with descriptions and explanations of each vintage courtesy of Wölffer’s winemaker Roman Roth.
The winery’s Grand Cru Virtual Tasting is $124 and comes with a package of four premium Wölffer wines — Caya Cabernet Franc 2017, Fatalis Fatum 2017, Sauvignon Blanc 2018 and Summer in a Bottle White 2019 — along with an 11-minute Virtual Tasting video in which Roth offers an in-depth look at each wine.
The Rosé Virtual Tasting package is $84 and comes with three Wölffer wines — Summer in a Bottle Rosé 2019, Estate Rosé 2019 and Noblesse Oblige 2016 — and like the Grand Cru tasting, is accompanied by a video of Roth sharing insight into each wine.
To purchase the wine tasting packages, visit the Shop Wölffer section of the website (wolffer.com). Once the package is purchased, the wines will be shipped straight to your door and the vineyard will be in touch with a link to your Virtual Tasting video. Then you can sit back and sip along as Roth tells you all about the wines in your glass.
If you’d like to make a party out of it (while socially distancing, of course), Wölffer is also offering Private Virtual Tastings for groups of five to 30 participants. Wines will be shipped to everyone’s doorstep and one of Wölffer’s wine experts will host a live 45-minute tasting with the whole group over Zoom. To schedule a private event, email Sue Calden scalden@wolffer.com or call 631-537-5106 ext. 920.
Cheers!
