“Artists & Writers” at Almond

Almond Restaurant continues the “Artists & Writers” series on Monday, January 9, at 7 p.m. with Andrina Wekontash Smith, a Black-presenting Native American storyteller, writer, performer and educator whose work often explores the complexity of racial identity/indigenous identity. The cost of the event is $59 and includes a three-course family style meal and a glass of wine or draft beer and gratuity.

Andrina Wekontash Smith is the first Native American to sell a series to network (ABC), and is currently developing the Native comedy under Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street. She has written for the Facebook app for its “Women’s Herstory” celebrating the untold stories of women changemakers, while “The Darker Red Road” (a piece she wrote and performed) garnered over three million views. She’s a 2022 NYFA grant recipient, and completed residencies at both Guild Hall and The Watermill Center. Her written work and essays have been featured in Edible’s East End and Native Max Magazine, and WildSam’s East End Edition. Currently, in addition to writing, she teaches a voice technique that emphasizes singing not being about hitting the right notes, but conveying accurate story. Story is found at the route of all she does.

Almond is at 1 Ocean Road in Bridgehampton. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 631-537-5665. For more information visit almondrestaurant.com.
