The Bird Is Back
The Bird (formerly Bird on The Roof) is a Montauk staple in the heart of the hamlet, open daily for brunch, lunch and now dinner (Wednesday through Saturday). Last season, the restaurant reopened with refreshed interiors by Home Studios. Celebrating the legacy of the 40-year-old beloved Montauk establishment, the design offers a familial sense of warmth and hospitality woven throughout the experience.
Chef Marcos Martinez Perez has returned to create menus reflective of the updated interiors. Daytime offerings include favorites such as soft scramble toast topped with young burrata, shakshuka, and buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit. Dinner highlights feature dishes like green curry with tofu, roasted baby zucchini, and Brussels sprouts; Passionfruit tuna tartare; and cantina mussels served in a warm broth of shallots, garlic, lime, cilantro, chorizo and corona beer.
Prior to joining The Bird, Chef Marcos worked at East End hot spots such as Rosies and Carissa’s. New this summer, the restaurant is offering a three-course price fix menu which includes a choice of one appetizer, one entree and one dessert in addition to a group dinner option, Flock Night, which includes a family-style meal of three appetizers, three entrees and dessert for groups of 6 or more.
In addition to seasonal dishes curated by Chef Marcos, for the summer season, The Bird welcomed bar manager Travis Slocum, an up-and-coming Filipino-African American bartender and sommelier. His cocktails are renowned for their unique blend of elevated and cultural flavors, using fresh and sustainable ingredients. A new standout on the menu is The Bird Cage, featuring Smith and Cross Rum, Tequila Blanco, Chinola, Velvet Falernum, Grilled Pineapple Gomme, Lime, Spirulina, and Angostura Bitters, smoked in a birdcage.
This summer, The Bird is hosting a rotating roster of live music every weekend Thursday to Sunday, along with Trivia Night every Thursday at 7 p.m. Additionally, every Saturday night from 9 p.m. to midnight, The Bird transforms into The Birdhouse, a swanky speakeasy featuring live music and specialty cocktails.
On Friday, August 9, from 9 to 11 p.m., The Bird will present “Buy Me Dinner First Comedy,” an evening of live music, live comedy (with comedians from Netflix, HBO, SNL and more), a family-style three-course meal from The Bird and drinks all night. Upscale Mexican in Southampton Village
El Verano is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Southampton Village owned by Chef Julian Medina and partner Meghan Manzi. The concept is inspired by the summer houses in Mexico which are considered escape destinations for residents of Mexico City.
