“Sips of Summer” Delves Into Craft Beer

The Express Magazine’s “Sips of Summer” series continues on Thursday, July 18, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with “The Next Generation of Craft Beer,” an event at Kidd Squid Brewing Company in Sag Harbor that will allow guests to sample different beers from some local breweries and hear behind-the-scenes information on the brewing process. Master brewers from Kidd Squid, übergeek and North Fork Brewing will take part. Light bites from Page at 63 Main will be served.

“[Guests] have the opportunity to get a lot more insight into the process and get to know us just personally,” said Rory McEvoy, who opened Kidd Squid, a licensed farm brewery that creates a variety of different beers using local produce, in summer 2022.

Alongside McEvoy, presenters will include Peter Barraud of North Fork Brewing Company and Rob Raffa of übergeek. They will share some insights about their top brews, giving guests a more personal connection to the beers they taste.

All three breweries focus on using local agriculture to create their beers. übergeek prides itself on using unconventional ingredients to develop unique brews. North Fork Brewing Company is a farm brewery that uses the hops that grow in its own hopyard, as well as hops, grains, fruits and vegetables from various North Fork farms, Barraud said.

Tickets are $40 at eventbrite.com. Kidd Squid Brewing Company is at 11 Spring Street in Sag Harbor.

Sweet Partnership at Carissa’s Bakery

Kith Treats (the cereal-infused ice cream parlor from luxury lifestyle and fashion brand Kith) is teaming up with Carissa’s Bakery this summer to launch four limited time specials, each featuring a pastry from the iconic James Beard Award-winning Hampton’s institution.

All four treats are now available at Carissa’s Bakery’s East Hampton location, 68 Newtown Lane, through September 2.

The specials are: Hazelnut Croissant (vanilla ice cream infused with Carissa’s hazelnut croissant and Kariot hazelnut cream cereal, topped with Nutella drizzle and crushed hazelnuts); Chocolate Chip Miso Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich (vanilla ice cream infused with Carissa’s chocolate chip miso cookie, sandwiched between two caramel-lined chocolate chip miso cookies dipped in milk chocolate with Cocoa Pebbles and toasted sesame topping); Monkey Bread (vanilla ice cream infused with Carissa’s monkey bread, cinnamon toast crunch and Cocoa Pebbles, topped with Carissa’s salted caramel drizzle and cinnamon sugar); the Bouchon (vanilla and chocolate ice cream blend infused with Carissa’s chocolate Bouchon and chocolate cake crunch, topped with chocolate drizzle and Cocoa Puffs).

Tacos and Tequila in the Heart of Southampton Village

Uno Mas Southampton, a taco and tequila hot spot on Hampton Road, recently opened its doors and is the newest restaurant in the heart of Southampton Village. This marks the third East End restaurant for restaurateurs Jess Gouws and Gary Spangler, who also have two Bamboo locations, one in Southampton and a second which opened earlier this summer in Montauk.

“We are excited to expand outside of the Bamboo franchise and try something a little different,” stated Gouws. “My partner and I have been working on this one for quite some time and when discussing with our head chef, Raul Cruz, it was a no brainer.”

Incredible tacos with a West Coast flair will set this restaurant apart from the rest.

“Gary was born in California so there is a lot of inspiration,” Gouws added.

“Tijuana-style tacos have always been my go to and something I’ve truly missed since being on the East Coast the last couple decades,” said Spangler. “When we decided to open a taco spot I knew we had to bring in the foremost taco expert who has mastered the Tijuana crispy taco, legendary chef Nick Fasanella.”

But it’s not just the tacos that make Uno Mas a must-visit destination. The extensive selection of tequilas and tequila-based cocktails is unparalleled. From refreshing margaritas to creative concoctions, the drinks are crafted with precision and flair, adding an element of sophistication to the dining experience.

The location will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, walk in only. Stay tuned. Uno Mas Westhampton Beach will be coming very soon …

For details, visit unomassouthampton.com or call 631-259-3826. Uno Mas Southampton is at 44 Hampton Road, #2 in Southampton. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. on Friday on Saturday.

What’s Black & White and Truly Delicious?

Levain Bakery is currently offering its super limited edition Black & White Chocolate Chip Cookie at the Wainscott bakery — but only for a short time.

There’s nothing more iconically New York than a Black & White cookie. To celebrate its new bakery in Flatiron, Levain is going back to its roots with a unique take on the delicatessen delicacy. Baked with extra dark cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chunks and a whole lotta New York attitude, it’s a two-color treat that means you don’t have to pick favorites.

As Jerry Seinfeld once said of the B&W, “If people would only look to the cookie, all our problems would be solved.” Agreed, Jerry. Online exclusive and here for a limited time only.

Levain Bakery is located at 354 Montauk Highway in Wainscott

A Touch of La Dolce Vita at The Maidstone

The over 150-year-old Maidstone Hotel on East Hampton’s Main Street has reopened under the new vision of Irwin Simon of ISMD and John Meadow and his team from LDV Hospitality, who are bringing a touch of Italian culinary luxury to the hotel’s restaurant.

Crafted by LDV partner and chef Jorge Espinoza, renowned for his tenure at Scarpetta, the menu at The Maidstone evokes quintessential moments of “Italian Summer” in the Hamptons. Guests will savor beloved LDV classics complemented by new dishes inspired by the coastal delights of Italy. Some highlights include spaghetti alla Nerano with fried zucchini and provolone and squid ink linguine with crab meat, uni, Calabrian chili and lemon. Moreover, patrons will be enticed by an expansive array of meticulously crafted cocktails and wines, curated to elevate every moment, including an aperitivo hour offered daily from 3 to 6 p.m. in the garden.

“As a longtime admirer of the Hamptons’ unique blend of elegance and tranquility, acquiring The Maidstone Hotel has been a deeply personal endeavor for me,” said Simon, managing director of ISMD. “My family’s ties to this cherished community run deep, and it’s an honor to play a part in preserving its rich heritage in partnership with LDV Hospitality. Together, we aim to create a haven where guests can immerse themselves in the timeless charm.”

Located at 207 Main Street in East Hampton, the property was constructed just after the Civil War by the Osborne Family and was originally used as a tannery and lodge. In 2008, the property was procured by Jenny Ljungberg who reopened the hotel with Scandinavian influences.
