The eighth annual “House and Garden Tour,” hosted by the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Advisory Council, is slated to have an interesting spin this year—and completely by chance, according to the event co-chair.
“Usually, the tour is a mix of new and old—McMansions on the beach and Dune Road, and other historic homes in the village,” said co-chair Mary-Jane Poole during a telephone interview last week. “This year, it turned out the homes and gardens on the tour are well-established. It happened by accident.”
On Friday, July 22, the self-guided tour—attended from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. by more than 500 participants yearly—may start at any of the four properties, which include a Victorian mansion in Quogue; a pre-Civil War barn in Remsenburg, where complimentary refreshments will be served; a traditionally-designed oceanfront home in Quogue; and an old barn in Remsenburg with a modern interior designed by Francis D’Haene of d’apostrophe design.
The designer of the barn-turned home said that the project was a somewhat difficult undertaking but proved worthwhile in the end.
“When confronted with transforming a 1980s barn-style house into a 5,300-square-foot vacation estate, I knew it was going to be quite a challenge,” Mr. D’Haene said in a press release. “My team and I had to simultaneously update the building with modern amenities and elements while still embracing its original intended style. Sourcing some old materials and mixing them with new allowed us to achieve this.”
Tour participants can purchase a standard ticket to view the four homes and may also choose to take advantage of the full-day package, which includes lunch at the Westhampton Country Club. Tickets are $75 for the tour only and $100 for the tour and lunch.
