Bridge Gardens To Host Open House, Tree Care Walk

authorStaff Writer on Oct 20, 2022

Peconic Land Trust’s Bridge Gardens in Bridgehampton will host a family-friendly open house this Saturday afternoon, October 22, with a scavenger hunt and other activities for kids and adults.

Summerhill Landscapes will facilitate bulb planting, and The Shine Studio will offer wood frame decorating. The South Fork Natural History Museum will present live amphibians and reptiles, and Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt will lead leaf rubbing. Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons will also be on hand, and the Peconic Land Trust will help guests make pinecone bird feeders and offer pumpkin painting, with pumpkins from Hank’s Pumpkintown.

At 12:30 p.m., local arborist Jackson Dodds will lead a garden walk on managing challenges in the landscape, and then at 1:30 p.m., community gardener Justin Ruaysamran will lead a fermentation demonstration on making sauerkraut.

The open house will run from noon to 3 p.m., with complimentary refreshments.

The event is free, though reservations are requested.

On Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m., Dodds will return to Bridge Gardens to offer a guided tree walk titled “Caring for Your Mature Trees and Shrubs” with Bridge Gardens director Rick Bogusch.

The walk through the 5-acre public space will introduce trees and shrubs that have grown there for decades. Dodds and Bogusch will explain how to recognize insect and fungal problems and the steps that can be taken to help mature trees and shrubs thrive.

The free program is presented in partnership with the Southampton Arts Center’s current exhibition, “A Celebration of Trees.”

To register for either event, call 631-283-3195 or email events@peconiclandtrust.org.
