AIA Peconic, the East End chapter of the American Institute of Architects, will host a presentation in Wainscott on Thursday, October 19, about the benefits of heat pumps, which offer all-electric and efficient means for heating and cooling homes by moving heat between the indoors and outdoors — rather than by generating heat from fuel.
Architects, builders and homeowners are invited to attend the program at 66 Wainscott Hollow Road, a nearly net-zero new home by general contractor SilverLining.
Renewable Energy Long Island Deputy Executive Director Melissa Parrott will introduce this sustainability-focused program.
Jean-Pierre Clejan of GreenLogic Energy will present an hourlong program on intelligent residential heat pump applications; including using heat pump technology for controlling air temperature, warming pools and providing domestic hot water. Clejan’s talk will also include a look at hyper-efficient new construction on Shelter Island with air source heat pumps and a case study of an Amagansett home receiving new geothermal HVAC and solar power, eliminating the home’s electric bill for the house and pool.
Clejan will share ways that electrification provides better financial results and lower carbon emissions than fossil fuel or electric resistance solutions and how improved aesthetics can be achieved in larger projects that incorporate geothermal HVAC.
Another South Fork architect project that will be discussed has had geothermal HVAC since initial construction was completed in 2008.
There is no cost to attend this event. AIA and PDH continuing education credits are offered. Arrive at 5 p.m. for a tour of the newly completed home project. Drinks and light bites will be served at 5:30 p.m., and Parrot will kick of the program at 5:40 p.m. Clejan’s hourlong presentation will start at 6 p.m.
Register at aiapeconicheatpumps.splashthat.com. The event will take place on a covered terrace; dress appropriately.
