Long Island Power Authority President and CEO Kevin S. Law recently announced a $10-million program which will provide eligible seniors with a one-time credit of $200 to their LIPA electric accounts.
The “Income-Eligible Senior Energy Assistance Program” is available to those 62 years and older who are having difficulty making electric bill payments. This onetime only credit of $200 will be credited to the LIPA account of qualifying seniors.
Those LIPA customers who receive the credit do not have to repay the credit amount received through the program. The program is available on a first-come, first-served basis and availability of program funds.
Qualified customers must meet income-eligibility guidelines. For example, a single person household must have a monthly income of no more than $1,963 or an annual income of $23,556. The guidelines for a two-person household is a monthly income of no more than $2,567 or an annual income of $30,804. Additional guidelines are available at the website lipower.org.
Those who wish to be considered for the program must show proof of eligibility including: a copy of their LIPA bill, a valid state-issued ID, a copy of their most recent federal tax filing or year-end statement from social security or disability and proof of household size.
