A perfect summer bag is more than just an accessory — it’s a warm-weather essential, especially on the East End. Whether you’re heading to the beach, running errands in town, or enjoying summer nights out, having the right bag makes all the difference. But don’t stress — I’m here to simplify the search, and luckily, there are fantastic options in our local villages.

The Oversized Tote

A great summer tote is a true workhorse. Opt for raffia, woven straw, or lightweight canvas — something versatile enough to transition from the beach to town effortlessly. Your tote should be spacious enough to carry a sun hat or visor, sunglasses, a change of shoes, and of course, sunscreen. Personally, I love a tote that can take me from a casual beach day to a boat ride or a BBQ. Last summer, I brought a raffia tote on a dinner cruise, and it held everything I needed — a warm pashmina, wedge sandals, and even a hostess gift.

Great oversized options range from luxe picks like Loewe and Veronica Beard to more affordable finds at J.Crew and Flying Point Surf. The Hampton Tote by Gladstn London, seen in the photo with me by the windmill, is perfect for the beach, poolside, or lunch with friends. Plus, it’s spacious enough to hold your laptop if work calls.

The Classic Clutch

A neutral clutch is a summer essential, seamlessly complementing any outfit for evenings out. It’s the right size for holding your phone, lipstick and maybe a slim pair of sunnies for a sunset. For added versatility, choose one with a chain or thin strap — ideal for going hands-free at a cocktail party or strolling through town. While often associated with dressier occasions, a clutch is just as great for a casual dinner or lunch. It’s the ideal way to carry only the essentials.

The Statement Bag

A bold bag is the flawless way to elevate any summer outfit, especially with the season’s love for crisp white dressing. Whether small and structured or oversized and relaxed, a statement bag adds instant personality and flair. Diego Binetti of Love Binetti has an exceptional eye for accessories, and I always turn to his stores and website for fresh, standout pieces each season. Look for vibrant prints, shimmering embellishments, or intricate beaded designs that turn heads. Some of my favorite statement bags this season include bags adorned with beaded fish, tropical florals, or even whimsical designs that resemble vintage storybooks. No matter your style, a statement bag is a fun and easy way to make your summer wardrobe stand out.

Packing Smart

If you’re traveling this summer, these three bags are all you need. Use your oversized tote as a carry-on, and tuck the clutch and statement bag into your suitcase. I always advise my clients to pack light; too many bags only add unnecessary weight. With just these three versatile bags, you’ll be ready for anything the summer brings — effortlessly chic and perfectly prepared.
