Monopoly Hamptons Edition has been released after a year of secrecy, with the game featuring local businesses from Westhampton to Montauk.
The board includes local shops like Stevenson’s Toy Store in Southampton, landmarks like the Montauk Point Lighthouse and, of course, it wouldn’t be the Hamptons without beaches, so players will find they can “own” Cooper’s Beach in the Southampton Village, Main Beach in East Hampton and Atlantic Avenue beach in Amagansett.
In Hamptons Monopoly the transportation has been changed to feature local options including the Hampton Jitney and Ambassador, Long Island Railroad and the Montauk Airport.
The game is themed to make every piece remind players of life on the East End. The money is different from the traditional design with a depiction of a lighthouse and the ocean with little windmills in two corners to keep everything on theme.
The chance and community chest cards are humorously relatable for Hamptons lovers featuring cards like, “Stuck in traffic. Go back 3 spaces” and “You won best sandcastle during a weekend competition, collect $10.”
“Monopoly is bringing people together, the family together and that is what we have at The Roundtree as well,” said Bobby Haryardi, general manager of Roundtree Amagansett, which is featured in the game.
Stevenson’s Toy Store is featured on the board, a dream come true for owner Roy Stevenson who began dreaming of creating a Hamptons monopoly board when he purchased the toy store over 20 years ago.
“We will be there forever,” said Steveson. “We have finally arrived.”
“It will be a great summer evening game or housewarming present for someone in the Hamptons,” said Gwen Waddington, co-owner of the Wharf Shop in Sag Harbor.
