After Colin Ambrose’s recent adventures, it’s no wonder that the chef has itchy feet.
On January 21, the owner of Estia’s Little Kitchen in Sag Harbor and his wife, Jessica Ambrose, finally sold their East Hampton home for $10.75 million in an off-market deal after a series of re-listings dating back to 2015. Roxanne Briggs, Peter Turino and Shannan North of Brown Harris Stevens represented the Ambroses, who sold to an unnamed LLC, according to the Real Estate Report Inc.
An influx of interest bumped up the last listing price, which was just shy of $8.5 million, but not as high as their original $21.5 million ask for the six-bedroom home at 157 Egypt Lane seven years ago.
The 2.5-acre property’s close access to two village beaches and protection on three sides by open space were likely a draw for Ambrose, who is a lifelong outdoorsman and avid fisherman. In 2017, he took a trip to the Chagrin River in Ohio, which kickstarted what has since become “The American Rivers Tour,” an epic road trip that connects him to fellow chefs on the banks of rivers across the country, where they cook and eat authentic meals together.
“Rivers connect us with nature and through nature we connect to ourselves,” Ambrose’s website says. “‘American Rivers Tour’ is based upon one man’s thirst for discovery as he fishes his way across the country, exploring the tastes and sights along the way and shares the stories of people who are finding meaning in their endeavors.”
Last year, the project grew to include “Tuesdays on the Trail,” where he biked a new portion of the 345-mile Empire State Trail System, which stretches from Manhattan to Canada, every Tuesday when the restaurant was closed. And, of course, he couldn’t help but discover new fishing spots and restaurants along the way.
Whether he found his new home, too, will remain to be seen.
