The Rosewood Farm Estate in Southampton, which had been owned by architect and designer Thierry Despont, who died last year at age 75, has sold for $17.8 million.
The 34-acre estate was exclusively represented by Douglas Elliman agents Paul Brennan, Martha Gundersen, Michaela Keszler and Paulina Keszler and had previously been listed for $19.95 million.
The property was once the site of the Southampton Riding & Hunt Club. Despont transformed the property over the years into what it is today, according to Douglas Elliman. The six-bedroom primary residence was once the main barn, and in addition to the main house, the property includes a four-bedroom guest house, a converted stable/pool house, and converted barn/four-car garage that had been Despont’s art studio.
South of the pool house, a meadow with a walking path leads to a gazebo and mature specimen trees from Africa.
“This estate represents the stunning culmination of Thierry’s career and personal life — and it’s one of the most incredible houses that has graced the Hampton’s real estate scene in many years,” Brennan said. “People are awed by the beautifully executed interiors and the incredible art and sculpture that fill every space. The grounds are equally captivating with beautiful deciduous trees and flowering bushes that accent the main house and pool house, and the long meadow views with accents of African grasslands. When you leave the property, you cannot help but feel blessed to have just experienced a genius in his element.”
According to The Real Estate Report Inc., the three lots that make up the estate sold as follows: $11.3 million for 320 Majors Path, $3.1 million for 344 Majors Path and $3.4 million, 200 Majors Path. While the first two were officially purchased by nondescript limited liability companies on September 19, the latter’s new owner is named Gods Country Tree Farm LLC, and that closing date was August 28.
