Former WABC Eyewitness News reporter Doug Johnson has put his East Hampton home on the market.
At 38 Darby Lane, the 2-acre property includes an 11,000-square-foot home, a one-bedroom cottage, a two-story garage/barn and a heated gunite swimming pool with attached spa.
Johnson shared the home with his late wife, Liz Robbins — who started the first woman-owned lobbying firm in America. Johnson and Robbins, who died last year at age 76, previously had another East Hampton home, at Two Mile Hollow.
“For years, every summer she held a weekend-long party at her home in East Hampton, which she playfully referred to as Congressional Camp,” states Robbins’s New York Times obituary. Several members of Congress would attend and rub elbows with musicians and Hollywood actors.
Over the course of decades, Robbins and Johnson have hosted the likes of Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, Jimmy Fallon, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel and Jon Bon Jovi.
The Darby Lane home has eight bedrooms, six fireplaces and multiple entertaining spaces, including a sun-drenched grand living room with ceiling to floor windows and a spacious den off the country kitchen. The lower level features a screening room, a large storage area, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a laundry room.
Associate broker Sheila Smith of The Corcoran Group has the listing for $11.85 million.
