Ferguson Buys Blackman Plumbing Supply

authorJD Allen on Dec 28, 2018

The Blackman Plumbing Supply showroom on County Road 39 in Southampton is changing hands. Blackman was acquired by Ferguson Enterprises in December. The Brooklyn-founded company is handing over more than 20 locations in New York, New Jersey and Florida to the Virginia-based wholesale distributor of residential and commercial plumbing supplies.

Air conditioning system supplier Wallwork Bros—which has an office in Riverside—was also bought out by Ferguson last month.

The acquisitions are the latest ventures by Ferguson to serve customers in every state, with an ongoing strategy to grow in the New York metro area. In 2012, the company moved into New York with the purchase of competitor Davis & Warshow—one of the area’s largest kitchen and bath product suppliers for decades. Ferguson then created its New York-based market distribution center in 2015, promising customers same-day or next-day product delivery within a 100-mile radius. Several New York showrooms, including a large one in Brooklyn, have opened over the last few years.

After the two latest acquisitions, Ferguson adds 39 new stores and showrooms in the New York metro area. With 99 total locations in the region, the company’s leadership wants to create a foothold where they see potential for growth in real estate development.

“Blackman Plumbing Supply and Wallwork are two well-established companies in the New York metro area,” said Ferguson CEO Kevin Murphy in a statement. “Both have a long history and great customer relationships in the market. Our expanded footprint will allow us to better serve our customer base, particularly on Long Island.”

Blackman Plumbing Supply in Southampton is expected to transition to the Ferguson brand over the next several months.
