Glover Street may be named for master craftsman Benjamin Glover, but his most famous whaling-era house is not on it.
Listed for nearly $6.5 million with Douglas Elliman, the Glover House — actually located at 278 Main Street in Sag Harbor — was originally built in 1810 and recently re-imagined by designer Nick Olsen.
Now, it is considered “a study in the best of the best of the East End’s architecture and design,” the listing said.
“Expanded in 1850 by Glover to include a neighboring carriage house for his daughter to make her home,” it explains, “the entire structure has been left intact and in excellent condition as it has been thoughtfully modernized, including state-of-the-art mechanicals and security systems.”
In total, the three-story, 4,000-square-foot home now includes five bedrooms, four full baths, seven fireplaces, formal living and dining rooms, a media room, library, bar, eat-in kitchen with sitting area, a grand fireplace and a memorable master suite parlor.
Outside, the privet-protected property takes outdoor living to new heights, with a back deck and patio, a dining area surrounded by crepe myrtle trees and what “might be considered the greatest front porch in all of Sag Harbor,” the listing says.
