Montauk Motels March Madness

author27east on Mar 19, 2019

Two recently reported big-ticket transactions in Montauk could indicate that a couple of changes may be afoot in that hamlet’s resort profile. Those two sales reported by the Long Island Real Estate Report within the last two weeks involve motels.

First up, though, is the biggest ticket—188 Old Montauk Highway was sold by Arthur Greene to a buyer shielded by a limited liability company for $8.7 million. We don’t know much about the 0.58-acre property other than it contains a single-family residence and is on the ocean side of the highway.

Harrington Property Associates has sold 540 West Lake Drive to an LLC for $3.47 million. From this 0.72-acre property’s website: “Welcome to the Gosman’s Culloden House Motels at scenic Montauk Harbor … the perfect location for a peaceful retreat by Block Island Sound. The three-minute walk brings you to everything you need: Montauk’s famous fishing fleet, Gosman’s Dock, restaurants, shops, taverns, ferry, markets, sailboats, and launching ramp. Catch the sunset—or fish!—just steps away! The Culloden House offers a variety of accommodations to suit your needs.” Summer can’t arrive fast enough!

Also just sold was 17 Soundview Drive, to an LLC, for $3.42 million, which Property Shark classifies as “motel.” The previous owner of the 0.4-acre parcel was also Harrington Property Associates, but a second owner was the estate of Roberta Gosman. Some readers may remember her, a longtime Montauk resident. Ms. Gosman, who passed away in May 2018 at age 85, was the manager of Gosman’s Restaurant, served for seven years on the East Hampton Town Planning Board, and was a supporter of Music for Montauk and the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation. She was the oldest of six children—and only daughter—of Robert and Mary Gosman, who founded the famous seafood eatery.
