Jason Flom may finally be taking the adage “Charity begins at home” to heart now that he has purchased a new residence in the Town of Southampton after years of raising and devoting millions of dollars to philanthropy. The reported purchase price was $3,250,000.

Located at 15 Bay Street in the North Sea Colony compound, the four-bedroom main house is on 0.46 acre that offers private beach access thanks to a staircase, western sunsets, and views of the nature preserve next door, Robins Island, and the North Fork. Once at the bottom of that staircase, the property includes 102 feet of beach frontage.

Back to the new owner. Some readers of The New Yorker may have noticed in the November 20 edition a full-page advertisement for Bonobos featuring Mr. Flom, looking quite successful. And indeed he is, as a longtime music industry executive. At various times he has served as the chairman and CEO of Atlantic Records, Virgin Records, the Capital Music Group, and Lava Records, which he founded. A different issue of The New Yorker called Mr. Flom “one of the most successful record men of the past 20 years … known for his specialty in delivering ‘monsters.’” No, not referring to Beowulf but to monster hits. Among the artists who he has helped to sell over 100 million records are Matchbox 20, Kid Rock, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Lorde.

In the active philanthropy arena, Mr. Flom is a founder of the Bronx Freedom Fund and the Innocence Project and serves on the boards of Families Against Mandatory Minimums, Drug Policy Alliance, City of Hope, and the NYU Prison Education Program. A particularly interesting effort is VetPAW, an organization dedicated to preserving African wildlife from poachers by using U.S. military veterans to partner with local rangers and government agencies.
