The ribbon was cut on two workforce housing homes on Wednesday, March 6, in Tuckahoe. New homeowners Stacey DiStefano and James White Jr., along with their two children, Madison and Jay, joined members of the Southampton Town Board, the Southampton Business Alliance, the Long Island Housing Partnership and Southampton Town Director of Housing and Community Development Diana Weir at the Tuckahoe Woods homes on Moses Lane and Magee Street.

The two, three-bedroom, two-bath homes were sold for $332,400 to applicants chosen in a housing lottery last year.

Ms. DiStefano and Mr. White had been renting for eight years near Hampton Bays and could not afford to purchase a home. They were picked in the housing lottery and moved into the new home just last month.

“We are truly blessed for this opportunity,” Ms. DiStefano said. “We wanted to stay out here near our families. We are very thankful to be given this opportunity to buy this new home.”

Along with these two homes, 15 units were made available at the condominium development Southampton Pointe this year. The town is predicting 66 rental units will become available when affordable housing projects are completed in Speonk and Tuckahoe’s Sandy Hollow later this year.

“We know there is a tremendous need for more workforce housing and with the help of the Southampton Business Alliance Housing Initiative and the Long Island Housing partnership we hope to help those looking for an affordable home within their communities,” Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said.
