The Seafield estate in Westhampton Beach is in contract.
Although the price was not named—the property had been listed for $16.75 million—it is said to be the highest sale of the year in the village, and was at one time the most expensive listings west of the canal.
The 16,000-square-foot waterfront estate, at 66 Seafield Lane, was designed in 1903 for coal baron William Atwater by Lincoln Memorial architect Henry Bacon, and the listing agents say it has been host to recent fundraisers as well as many noteworthies over its history.
Seafield is on 6.86 acres with 620 feet of water frontage on Quantuck Bay. The mansion has nine bedrooms, six fireplaces, nine full baths and two half-baths. There are—count them—44 century-old catalpa trees lining the front drive, and the property also has 100-year-old grape vines, formal gardens, a greenhouse, a 56-foot Gunite pool by the water and a deepwater dock.
Marcia Altman of Brown Harris Stevens and Enzo Morabito of Douglas Elliman had a co-exclusive on the property. Ms. Altman also had the highest sale to close (thus far) this year in Quogue, the Lazarus estate known as Wabossagock, an 1896 mansion on 3.8 acres in Quogue, which was listed for $13.5 million.
