There were two recent purchases on Dune Road in West Hampton Dunes Village, at 674 Dune Road and 713 Dune Road.

The latter was the bigger deal of the duo, thanks to David and Joanne Dosik dropping $3.16 million for the 4 bedroom, 3-bath house just shy of 3,000 square feet on an oceanfront parcel just over a quarter-acre. The post-modern house features an open floor plan, vaulted ceilings, state-of-the-art kitchen, multi-level balconies, and a private office.

However, the other transaction may have a bit more interest because of the family background.

That property, a short beach buggy ride down Dune Road, was purchased for just more than $2 million by Joel and Lisa Brodman. Joel Brodman heads the chain of Casanova Meat Markets, which originated in the Bronx and was co-founded by his father, Werner Brodman. The elder Mr. Brodman died in February 2012, a month before he and his wife, Judy, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

Werner Brodman was born in April 1929 in Wurtzburg, Germany. Hitler came to power four years later, and in 1938 the Jewish family got out of Germany while they still could, arriving in England and then emigrating to the United States.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and after the military embarked on a career that included both business and philanthropy. The first Casanova Meat Markets were in Freeport as well as the Bronx.

Mr. Brodman served on the boards of the Parkinson’s Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society, and the United Jewish Federation. On eastern Long Island, he was a founding member of the Hamptons Synagogue in Westhampton Beach.

The house his son and daughter-in-law bought is 2,900 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths that was built in 2000. Among its more appealing amenities are a pool, skylights, fireplace, and a deck which offers plenty of opportunities for oceanfront gazing.
