Joseph “Joey” Francis Early, who the family says was beloved by everyone who knew him, died suddenly on Friday, May 13. Born on September 7, 1963, he was raised in Sag Harbor.
He touched many people in his short time on earth, and never missed a chance to go fishing. He enjoyed his job at East Hampton and Montauk IGA as a meat wrapper, and also did painting and spackling most of his life.
His niece Megan, who “loved him to the moon and back,” said it best: “There is nothing bad you could say about my uncle Joey. He was kind, loving and entertaining, to say the least. He had the biggest heart. If you were in his life, you were family forever. His personality was bigger than life. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for my brother and me. He would drop everything if we needed him. He was the life of any party or event, and he could make you laugh even on your worst day.”
He was predeceased by his father, Francis (Buddy) Early; and is survived by his mother, Gail Early; sister Vicky and her husband Scott Dominski; and brother Dirk Early. He is also survived by niece Megan and her husband Rafael Moreno; nephews Erik Suydam, Jake Early and Christopher Caramagna; ex-wife Robyn Early; and his most recent love Nadia, his “Lady Earl.”
He always looked forward to rowing in the whaleboat races at HarborFest each September. This year, there will be a boat rowed in his honor, and a remembrance for him on the beach. There will also be a celebration of his life at a future date at his home in East Hampton.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words and generosity.
