The Sag Harbor Board of Education officially adopted a new policy on Monday night for requirements to graduate with distinction, and also eliminated the class rank policy. The district will continue to name a valedictorian and salutatorian for the senior class, but, starting with the class of 2026, will use a Latin honors system in place of class rank. Sag Harbor Board of Education members looked over and discussed a first draft for a proposed elimination of class rank and the introduction of a Latin honors system as a new requirements policy for graduating with distinction at the latest board meeting on Monday night. Voters in the Sag Harbor School District approved the 2025 operating budget of $3,735,957 for the John Jermain Memorial Library by a 246 to 45 tally on Thursday, September 26. Voters also approved two propositions that would provide taxpayer support for both the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum and the Eastville Community Historical Society. The whaling museum will receive $75,000 a year on top of the $50,000 it already receives in taxpayer support for a total of $125,000 a year. The measure passed 237 to 55.
