Sean Giblin of Sag Harbor died on December 22. He was 79.
He was born in New York City to Edwin and Mary (Murrin) Giblin. In 1951, they moved to Patchogue, where he attended school and graduated from Patchogue High School.
He worked in the Patchogue A&P and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965. His tour of duty was in Vietnam, where he was wounded and contracted malaria. In 1968, he was honorably discharged and went back to work at the A&P as a butcher and meat manager. From 1983 to 1991, he owned the Murray Hill Market in Sag Harbor. Later, he worked for IGA and Waldbaum’s. For many years, Giblin was a volunteer with the Sag Harbor Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theodora Worth Giblin; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Chapman of Brevard, North Carolina, Ginny Hagerty of Brevard, North Carolina, Andrea Barrett (Ken) of Bayport; nephew, Christopher Barrett; and niece, Joanna Barrett Ziada (Pharaoh); and grandnieces Aya and Everlee, and grandnephew, Zain.
A wake was held December 28 at Yardley’s Funeral Home in Sag Harbor and a Mass was celebrated on December 29 at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor, followed by interment at St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Sag Harbor Fire Department (sagharborfd.org) or the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (arfhamptons.org).
