I request that The Press reconsider its high school wrestling section. While I understand the desire to cover local sports, the focus on wrestling may inadvertently contribute to a climate that encourages violence. Wrestling, by its nature, involves physical aggression and dominance. Highlighting this sport may send a message that such behavior is acceptable, or even celebrated. In a time where our society grapples with issues of aggression and violence, it’s crucial to consider the messages we send, especially to young people. Last Thursday, in another sweeping action, the new deputy attorney general and former personal attorney for Donald Trump, Emil Bove, ordered that the criminal case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams be dropped. Adams had been indicted (by a grand jury of citizens) for accepting bribes and gifts, and was being investigated for possible obstruction charges, destroying evidence and lying to FBI agents. On Friday, February 7, our family nearly lost our entire home due to a house fire. While the damage to our home and loss of much of our belongings is overwhelming, our situation could have been much worse. We would like to thank the brave volunteers of the Southampton and North Sea fire departments and mutual aid who risked their lives in an extremely dangerous situation. We are safe, and our historic home will be able to be salvaged, and many of our sentimental items, hopefully, restored.
