It was nice to see Julia Heming’s article about Ken Von Der Hayden’s new dog from Paws of War [“Bridgehampton Veteran Finds A New Friend Through Paws Of War,” 27east.com, July 18]. I noticed a tone of “lonely vet needs a dog for a friend” and would like to add that while he is a master at training his dogs, Ken is so much more than that.
I have known Kenny well since 1983, and without a doubt he is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. He is wonderful designer of endless variety: sculpture, buildings, ponds, furniture, restaurants, etc. He is also a thoughtful philosopher, environmentalist, outdoorsman, and a great friend to have, as his many friends would attest.
