Adolph Siegel

Adolph Siegel of Sarasota, Florida, and formerly of West Islip, died on October 2. He was 84 and the father of Bill Siegel of Hampton Bays.

Born in New York City, he was raised in the Bronx and graduated from James Monroe High School at the age of 15. He graduated from New York University Stern School of Business in 1947 and New York University Law School in 1949 at the age of 20. He passed the bar exam at the age of 21.

Mr. Siegel married Beverly Goldenberg in December 1950, and shortly thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army. In 1951, he was deployed to Korea and was assigned to the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAGC). He was later promoted to captain and re-assigned to Japan, where his wife Beverly joined him in 1953.

In 1954, after completion of his military service, Mr. and Mrs. Siegel relocated to Lindenhurst, where he opened his own law office and they welcomed their daughter, Michelle. In 1958, their son William was born.

Mr. Siegel’s practice focused on real estate, construction and zoning matters. He represented some of the largest developers in the history of Long Island, land title insurance companies, local small businesses, as well as families, and he quickly became one of the most respected attorneys in the region for the next 50 years.

Mr. Siegel was a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association for nearly 50 years. He served on the association’s board of directors, and for many years he was the chairman of its Real Property Committee.

Mr. Siegel successfully argued cases before the New York State Supreme Court, New York State Appellate Division Second Department, and the New York State Court of Appeals. One of his greatest accomplishments was drafting an act to amend the Real Property Law in New York State, which was signed into law by then Governor Mario Cuomo in 1991.

Mr. Siegel was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Island Hills Golf Club in Sayville. He also enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with his wife and loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Siegel was pre-deceased by his wife, Beverly. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Joe Bodnar of Sarasota, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Susan Siegel of Hampton Bays; his granddaughters, Jennifer and Sharon Siegel; and a grandson, Jared Bodnar.

An Ancient Battle

Aesop was my first author. I was 6 when I received a beautifully illustrated anthology — I read it forward and back. The mainly cautionary and instructive anecdotes anthropomorphized animals and elements and struck a chord with my world view. The fox, the crow, the goat and, of course, the boy who cried wolf were tangible compatriots. I shared in their flaws and learned from their lessons. It would be mid-March, late morning, when the North Wind challenged the Sun to a duel. Presumably, they are both bored — up there on a clear spring day with not even a ... by Staff Writer

Many Thanks

As many in the community are aware, on Friday, March 7, Westhampton Beach Middle School and High School were evacuated following bomb threat phone calls to each school [“Westhampton Schools Bomb Threats Came From Germany, at Behest of Local Student,” 27east.com, March 7]. Moving 1,400 students off campus without warning is challenging, but we were able to do so quickly and safely because we had tremendous cooperation and support. Thank you to the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department, the Town of Southampton Police Department and the New York State Police, who not only supported the evacuation but were integral to ... by Staff Writer
