The San Gennaro Feast of the Hamptons has been rescheduled for the weekend of October 14 and 15, organizers said this week. The 11th annual event was canceled last weekend owing to inclement weather.

The local San Gennaro celebration has grown in popularity in the years since its inception 11 years ago and last year drew some 30,000 people from the community and across Long Island. It’s the largest San Gennaro Feast in New York State after the flagship feast that takes place in New York’s Little Italy each year.

The Hamptons Bays festival celebrates not only Italian American culture and cuisine but a local community that comes out in droves for the carnival rides, the food, the eating contests, the beer, and other features including a roster of Italian American musicians, said John Tortorella, this year’s grand marshal.

The Hampton Bays-based founder of Tortorella Pools marveled at the popularity of the local festival: “All our friends go — everyone puts it on their calendar.”

It’s a great time for the hamlet to kick back after a high season filled with vacationers, he said. “We’ve had the summers being so packed, and now we have the town back for our feast.”

A little later than usual this year — but put it on the calendar.
