Glazer Designs New Quogue Commercial Building A new commercial building currently under construction in Quogue Village at 164 Jessup Avenue on the corner of Quogue Street is designed by architect Pamela Glazer, who expanded the footprint of the existing commercial building’s property by situating a twin building next door joined by an arcade. “It’s been a great honor to design the first new building in Quogue Village in many years,” said Glazer. “The response has been excellent, with many noting that the design fits seamlessly into the community.” The 3,489-square-foot space will offer four retail units and one large second-floor ... 13 Jan 2025 by Staff Writer

Just Propaganda

Regarding Westwoods, Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore recently stated, “The conclusion they reached is that it’s held ‘restricted fee,’ but all that means is that the property can’t be transferred to others without consent of the federal government. That is a far cry from saying it is still aboriginal title. It’s two separate standards.” This is just plain false. A simple Google search will tell you that the U.S. Department of the Interior defines “restricted fee” lands as not only inalienable but, additionally, restricted fee lands “are also considered ‘Indian country,’ and are eligible for many [Bureau of Indian Affairs] ... by Staff Writer

Unintended Consequences

The Southampton Town Business Alliance strongly objects to the proposed amortization law for sand mines in Southampton Town, asserting that the law’s attempt to shut down all local sand mines would have severe ecological and economic consequences. Ecological impact: The SBA warns that this law would exacerbate traffic congestion, particularly on already overburdened roads like County Road 39. The influx of thousands of tractor-trailers transporting sand from other regions would lead to higher carbon emissions and increased air pollution, further harming the environment. Economic impact: The closure of local sand mines would have significant economic repercussions, including the increased cost ... by Staff Writer

Credit Is Due

I am a Westhampton Beach resident and I watched the work closely at the windmill [“Top Two Portions of Dix Windmill Assembled in Westhampton Beach,” 27east.com, January 7]. The contractor who moved the windmill from its original site to the new location, and who also pieced it together at the new location, didn’t get any credit in your article. I think it’s important they are recognized. The company is Dawn House & Building Movers, owned by Stanley Kazel. Jess B. Estie Westhampton Beach 11 Jan 2025 by Staff Writer

Options Exist

At their last meeting, Southampton Village trustees heard ideas for significantly altering Somerset Avenue in order to decrease through traffic during the afternoon commute. Several things were notable. First, all three plans closed a quarter-mile stretch at the north end of Somerset permanently for southbound traffic. Second, the plans were remarkably well-developed and detailed, despite this being the first public discussion, and despite the fact that a lengthy public process involving neighbors two years ago did not recommend or even seriously consider such a permanent closure. (Note to trustees: Didn’t the Pond Lane saga teach us to stop developing significant ... by Staff Writer
