Amazing Success

The recent Palm Tree Music Festival, held on the grounds of the Shinnecock Nation, was an amazing success on every level, in spite of being a very last-minute change of venue from Gabreski Airport [“Shinnecock Nation Celebrates Smooth Handling of Giant Music Festival On Saturday,” 27east.com, June 26].

From my personal perspective, the mere fact that I was able to drive along Montauk Highway from my home in Quogue to a family party in Water Mill that afternoon, without any delays, speaks equally to the amazing efforts put forth by all levels of local government, with a special thank you to the various police departments who handed that last-minute assignment, as well as to the Shinnecock community, for their ability to accept and execute the assignment flawlessly, much to the enjoyment of the 10,000-plus who came there for an fun-filled day of music and relaxation.

Perhaps most amazingly, especially in today’s often angry world, the crowd was extremely well-behaved, with a sole focus of enjoying the moment.

Congratulations to Lance Gumbs and the tribe’s Council of Trustees. Well done, my friends.
