Andrew K. Schultze Sr. of East Quogue died suddenly on December 19. He was 57.

He was born on October 24, 1967, in Southampton.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother, family member and friend. He consistently worked to make the lives of those around him better. He was kind, patient, loving, and absolutely selfless, his family said. He loved his children immensely and was so proud of all of their accomplishments. Family was extremely important to him and he enjoyed every minute he shared with them. He was loved by so many and he enjoyed sharing a beer or bourbon with friends and family, riding his Harley, recently going to the shooting range, and traveling.

“Rest in peace Andy,” his family said. “You will be remembered by your love for your family and friends. Your memory will live on with each glass of bourbon shared and country song listened to.”

A large part of his work life was spent at companies Matz-Rightway, Arenz, and Flanders before accomplishing his goal of starting his own business. Heaterman Heating and Air Conditioning was his dream and legacy. His employees were his second family as he would share his daily banters. He will be forever known as the Heaterman.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Schultze; his children, Andrew Schultze, Marissa Lentz (Stephen Lentz), Connor Dowling, and Cameron Dowling (Peyton Dowling); his twin sister, Allison Wasson; his brothers Timothy Schultze and Bill Schultze; many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on January 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church at 177 Frowein Road in East Moriches. If using GPS, make sure that East Moriches is specified. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at Long Island Farm Brewery on Wading River Road in Manorville between 4-7 p.m. to share stories, memories, love, laughter, and to raise a glass to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations toward a scholarship fund for future HVAC students to attend a trade program. More details will follow.

The Wrong Side of History

With the end of a long career of public service on the East End, I am looking forward to new opportunities in this next chapter of my life, including some time to decompress and enjoy friends and family. One of those opportunities I couldn’t pass up was the offer to do a column periodically for The Express News Group. The East End continues to confront so many important challenges and changes. I am thankful to have the chance to offer some opinion and perspective, and maybe an inside view, on some of the important issues of the day. This week, ... by FRED W. THIELE JR.

Fractured Trust

Thursday, December 19, marked another disgraceful chapter in the long history between the Southampton Town government and the Shinnecock Nation. A week before Christmas, the Southampton Town Board voted, 3-2, to engage in economic warfare by pursuing litigation against the Shinnecock Nation’s gas station plaza project. The gas station plaza project has been in development for over a year and will be a vital revenue stream for the nation. It is located on our sovereign land that has never been taxed or zoned by the Town of Southampton. The town’s actions have deteriorated the relationship between the Shinnecock Nation and ... by Staff Writer
