Anthony “Tony” M. Kirshy of Southampton died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes on January 9. He was 92.

He was born in Brooklyn to Mitry and Matilda Kirshy. He went to Manual Training High School, finished one year of college and then was drafted by the U.S. Army on November 18, 1952. He was a private first class in the 98th Military Police Battalion, serving two years overseas during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He received a letter of commendation in September 1953 for his outstanding performance of duty as a military policeman.

He returned to Brooklyn and married his high school sweetheart, Theresa Zehil. He worked tirelessly to provide for his children, send them to college, medical school and trade school.

He initially worked as a linotype operator for several Wall Street printing companies, such as Ad Press and Chas Young in New York City. He was a member of the NY Typographical Union. He later worked for Chase Bank in New York City as the vault manager. He enjoyed investing in the stock market and real estate and weekend trips with his wife and friends to Atlantic City and Aqueduct racetrack. Every summer he would get a seasonal rental in the Poconos with the family and enjoy the outdoors.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. He was kind, selfless, loving and the most patient man you could ever know, his family said.

He is survived by his three children, Anthony Kirshy (Anastasia) of Staten Island, Dr. David Kirshy (Claire) of Southampton and Marybeth Rogers of Ardsley, New York; his grandchildren, Anthony, Nicholas, Sarah, David, Caitlyn, Lauren and Mark; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa; brother Toufic; and sisters Nora, Laurice, Gloria and Georgette.

Visitation will be held on January 11, from 10 a.m. to noon at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, followed by a funeral service at The Dormition of The Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of The Hamptons at 1 p.m.

Donations in his name can be made to The Dormition of The Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons (dormitionhamptons.org).

Southampton Scored $19 Million Grant for Riverside Sewers

Southampton Town has been awarded a $19 million grant to help fund the construction of a sewer system and sewage treatment plant for Riverside — the cornerstone of the town’s decade-long drive for a sweeping revitalization of the blighted hamlet. The town recently won a lawsuit brought by Riverhead Town seeking to stop the Riverside sewer system, which will be able to treat the daily sewage from more than 700 new residences and hundreds of thousands of square feet of new commercial businesses. The first phase of the design and planing for the sewer system is complete and the town ... by Michael Wright
