Barbara Catherine Britt of Riverhead died on October 24. She was 85

She was spiritually active throughout her life, guided by deep compassion and generous, loving nature, according to her family. Born in Brooklyn, she attended St. Brendan’s High School and, later, secretarial school. At age 24, she and her husband Edward moved to Southampton to raise their family. She ended her career in the Southampton School District administration department until her retirement in Edenton, North Carolina, with her husband. There she volunteered in literacy programs and raised money for teen mothers.

After being widowed in 2014, she returned to Long Island and settled in Riverhead. In her remaining years, she was surrounded by her family, who will remember her fondly with love and appreciation in their hearts, they said.

Visitation was November 4 at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead, New York.

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Edward G. Britt. She is survived by her children, Beth, Meg, Joe, Tim, and Amy, and their spouses, John Zaluski, Melissa Britt, and Jon Monroe; her 10 grandchildren, Sean and Zachary Monroe, Justine and Michael Zaluski, Matthew and Christian Britt, Sara and Shelby Britt, and Anna and Jacob Abel; and by her great-grandchildren, Bobby, Isabella, and June; her brother Michael Kaldrovics, sisters-in-law Margaret Medler and Anne Kaldrovics; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on November 5 at St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, 546 St. John’s Place, Riverhead, NY, with interment on November 7 at the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY.
