Benjamin William Highton of Southampton and Hampton Bays died peacefully on January 31 at the Westhampton Care Center. He was 90.
He was born in Liverpool, England, and a resident of New York City, Southampton and Hampton Bays for the past 60 years.
He had a rewarding 40-year career within the corporate division of Tiffany & Co — where he made lifelong friends.
He was an avid bicycle rider, he loved all animals (especially dogs), his passions were watching soccer, Broadway theater, foreign films, museums, and the New York Times and Wall Street Journal crossword puzzles.
Over the years, he made many friends at the Southampton Senior Center and the Hampton Bays Library.
He was loved by all who knew him, his survivors said, and he brought light and laughter to every room he entered. He will be remembered for his great kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his nephew, Richard Highton (Denise); niece Caroline Highton; cousin Helen Portchmouth (Richard); and his nephews, nieces and cousins in the United Kingdom.
A private memorial service will be planned at a later date.
