In celebration of Presidents Day, Ms. Rivera’s third and fourth grade social studies classes have been researching facts about our first president by reading the book titled “George Washington’s Breakfast” by Jean Fritz. After completing the research, students participated in a cooking lesson where they made hoe cakes—a cake of cornmeal and water that was originally placed on the flat pallet of a garden hoe and baked on an open fire. Students culminated the lesson by eating and enjoying President Washington’s favorite breakfast, otherwise known as corn cakes.
Jennah Hochstedler, Juan Jimenez, Byzeida Perez, and Angelica Uribe in the digital photography class will be exhibiting their work at the Hampton Library. An opening reception will be held on Friday, February 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the downstairs gallery.
