Carolyn Downey, formerly of North Sea, died on February 2 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She was 87.

She was born on August 23, 1935, to Gertrude and William Bloomer in Brooklyn, and eventually settled in Southampton, where she raised her five boys.

She was best known for her warm and friendly personality and had a unique way of making people feel special, her family said. She will be missed by the many friends she had and the people whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her son Jeffrey; and her sister Lois DeLorraine. She is survived by her sons Timothy, William, Brian, and Daniel Downey; her daughter-in-law, Karin Downey; grandchildren Lauren and Evan Downey; great-granddaughter Paige Downey; and her many nieces and nephews.

The family will host a memorial gathering at the North Sea Community House on Saturday, March 11, from 2-5 p.m. to honor and celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations to her son Bill’s GoFundMe page, as he recently suffered a severe stroke, would be appreciated by the family. The GoFundMe page can be accessed by entering Bill’s Road to Recovery in the search box.

Albert Francke, Formerly of Bridgehampton, Dies March 3

Albert Francke, a retired corporate lawyer, former Navy Seal and avid sportsman, died of natural causes on March 3 at Peconic Landing, an assisted living facility in Greenport. He was 90. Francke, the son of the late Eleanor Fitzgerald Francke and Albert Francke Jr, grew up in Manhattan in New York City. His mother ran the household and volunteered at several charitable institutions and his father was an executive at Ernst & Ernst, certified public accountants. County Executive Urges Caution in Handling of Dead Birds
