Nothing new from our liberal Press columnists last week.
Karl Grossman took aim at our former congressman and current EPA head, desperately making the typical climate argument that the sky is falling [“Much Less Green,” Suffolk Closeup, Opinion, April 24]. In spite of every extreme prediction proving to be woefully short of an extinction event, Mr. Grossman is outraged that Lee Zeldin has turned off the spigot of wasted taxpayer money flushed down the rabbit hole of wishful thinking that has helped divert billions of dollars in productivity away from our energy industry.
The war on fossil fuel consumption has successfully restricted the availability of inexpensive energy without any effect on our planet’s climate future. It has cost thousands of good jobs, and made obsolete resources that could raise the standard of living, including right here in upstate New York.
Democrats have made climate virtue signaling the highest priority and forgotten about their citizenry and the costs to abide by climate hysteria. Albany, currently occupied by true believers like Mr. Grossman, has stymied the development of natural gas and stopped the simple distribution of cheap energy across its border. Their answer to our energy requirements are billion-dollar boondoggles in the form of offshore wind farms that actually do more harm, economically and environmentally, than any measurable public benefit, and actually adds more end user cost to our kilowatt hours. Add to this the environmental havoc these platforms cause to the seabed as their pylons are pounded deep into our offshore bottom.
Americans need to wake up to the fact we really are not far from finding out we can’t afford all the benefits our government have seduced us with. In this highly confrontational world of adversaries, we are no longer able to sustain the hegemony we once enjoyed. Throwing billions, which add up to trillions, at vanity projects is insane.
The chaos Democrats are so disturbed by with the current administration is an answer to the old bromide: the definition of insanity is to expect a different outcome by doing things the same way.
