Charles A. Palmer Sr.

Charles A. Palmer Sr. of Westhampton Beach and Venice, Florida, died at home from complications from diabetes on Thursday, December 29. He was 79.

Although he retired as a New York State horticultural inspector, Mr. Palmer was well-known locally as a former owner of the Westhampton Bowling Alley in the 1960s, former proprietor of Palmer’s Place in Westhampton Beach in the 1970s, and a local real estate developer and landlord. A war veteran, Mr. Palmer served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol, former postmaster of Westhampton Beach; children, Charles Palmer Jr. and wife Terry of Westhampton Beach, Jeanne Graupmann and husband Joseph of Virginia, and Patricia Killian and husband Charles of Quogue; and grandchildren Krista, Heather and Courtney Killian, and Steven and Kathleen Palmer. He was predeceased by his children, Donna and Steven.

A funeral Mass was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Quiogue on Tuesday, January 3, officiated by Monsignor Eugene Feldhaus and Father Joseph Mirro. Mr. Palmer received a Navy Honor Guard detail at the family plot at Westhampton Cemetery prior to his interment.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the food pantry at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, would be appreciated by the family.
